Network, Metering & Inspections

The process

Going solar has a few behind-the-scenes steps, but don’t worry—we’ll take care of everything for you.

Here’s what happens next:

Step 1 – Network Approval

We handle the application for network consent on your behalf.

Step 2 – Meter Request

Once approved, we’ll contact your power retailer to arrange for an import/export meter (this tracks the energy you use and send back to the grid). If you haven’t shared a recent power bill with us, please do so—it helps move things along.

  • Thinking of switching power companies? Wait until the new meter is installed to avoid delays.
  • The new meter typically costs between $100-$200 and will be billed to you directly from your power retailer.

Step 3 – Inspection

After we finish your solar installation, we’ll request an independent inspection (required by law). The inspection usually takes place within two weeks of your installation completion. Your system can’t be switched on until it passes the inspection.

Step 4 – Meter Installation

Depending on which region you live in either a contractor will be assigned to install your new meter or the independent inspector will do so at the same time as completing your solar inspection.

Step 5 – Compliance Documents

Once everything’s done, we’ll send you the required compliance documents:

  • A Certificate of Compliance (COC) from us.
  • A Record of Inspection (ROI) from the independent inspector, who will also turn on your system.
